From 4 October, the young architects Margot van Bekkum, Arianne Fleege and Mike van Rheenen present their perspective on Schouwburgplein. The diverse designs, ideas and plans through time show that – certainly in Rotterdam – there is no uniform opinion on a good city square. Now that the redevelopment has been put on hold for the time being, there is room to re-enter the conversation about the future of Schouwburgplein. Arianne, Mike and Margot’s ideas offer a fresh look at public space, the city and its users. What does a possible ‘new’ square tell us about present-day Rotterdam?
