An entire film devoted to discussion of the joys of coffee and cigarettes? Director Jim Jarmusch makes it work through a series of offbeat, captivating vignettes—featuring celebrated actors, musicians and entertainers. In the film Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) Jarmusch combines eleven short stories – shot between 1986 and 2003 – all revolving around the everyday activities of drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. The result? A sublime, absurdist omnibus of human interactions and surreal conversations.
