“We regard it as a demonstration of a more enjoyable way of living in an old industrial part of the city. A model, an exemplar of a new mode of urban organization.” Architect Peter Smithson
The improvement, renewal or demolition of Post 65 architecture is not only a Dutch subject. In the documentary Robin Hood Gardens, filmmakers Thomas Beyer and Adrian Dorschner capture Alison and Peter Smithson’s iconic London housing complex, short before its demolition. This film is about the intentions and the failing of this brutalist project from 1972. Can we still learn something from the design to improve living in the city of tomorrow?
