Opening Performance

BAR OMI

Thursday 17 July 2025

On Thursday, July 17, BAR OMI opens its doors. Spatial artist Ben Weir takes you to Northern Ireland with a collage of fiction, memoir, and performance. And Rotterdam-based DJ Tee Groove brings the groovy sounds: expect a warm, uplifting mix with Disco and especially ’80s Boogie in the spotlight.

Screams From the Trees

Artist-architect Ben Weir (1991, Belfast) draws, writes, researches and builds, working to uncover hidden spatial and material potentials. In his forthcoming book Screams From the Trees Weir dives into the phenomenon of the garden hermitage: a rustic, grotesque folly built within the 18th century English landscape garden tradition, imported into aristocratic estates in Ireland during British colonial rule. This evening, Ben will take excerpts from his book, expanding them into a fragmentary theatre of fiction, memoir and performance-lecture. Through a decolonial post-conflict lens, Weir brings us on first-person research trips to the two remaining hermitages in his homeland of Northern Ireland.

About BAR OMI

This summer, BAR OMI opens its doors. Designed by Studio Verter, the bar acts as a vibrant gathering and performance space to meet, talk, relax and experience unexpected forms of art together. From listening bar and film space to studio and stage for creative talent: BAR OMI changes character each week. Immerse yourself in a series of curated evenings by artists, architects and designers. By day, BAR OMI transforms into a book shop, library, art space and vinyl listening bar in one. Come by for a relaxed afternoon to enjoy some music and a good book with a cup of fresh brewed coffee – at the bar or in our cool green courtyard.
