HOW DID YOU GET HERE?

Sketching Party

Thursday 21 August 2025

In our everyday journeys, we often rely on digital tools like Google Maps – following the blue dot without truly noticing or memorising the spaces we move through. Yet, even without realising it, we are constantly perceiving, mapping, and remembering our surroundings in unique and personal ways. The Urbanistas Rotterdam invite you at BAR OMI to pause, reflect, and explore how you experience the city – through sight, sound, touch, and smell.

How do you remember your route to BAR OMI? What stands out? What patterns, feelings, or memories does the city evoke for you? Together we visualise these urban experiences through mind maps – a loose, expressive format that may include: drawings and sketches, notes and short writings, performances or gestures, scribbles and spontaneous marks. At BAR OMI, we’ll build a collective exhibition of the participants’ documented journeys to OMI’s space.

Referring to methods of Kevin Lynch, Rebecca Solnit and Situationist International we want to celebrate the diverse ways we navigate though Rotterdam. We’ll share and discuss our sensory experiences along with cocktails and mocktails, background songs about different cities, enjoying the late-summer energy in a good atmosphere.

As Urbanistas Rotterdam, we are focusing on an inclusive city for all. We would like to learn from each other’s experience and provoke dialogue through listening and making together. All interested individuals, of all professions and genders are welcome to join this event.

About:

Urbanistas RDAM is a women-led network that emphasises collaboration and action. Despite there being an abundance of amazing women doing great things in our cities, they believe that women’s experiences and voices in cities are still under-represented. Urbanistas RDAM want to change that by growing women’s leadership and capacity to start their own projects, and empower them to realise their ideas and make cities better for everyone.
