An awkward Iggy Pop, a jealous Cate Blanchett and a caffeine-delirious Bill Murray. On Thursday 31 July, BAR OMI screened the sold-out cult classic Coffee and Cigarettes: a series of comical, mostly improvised sketches by director Jim Jarmusch.

At the bar with a cup of steaming coffee or tea (or two, or three), we saw famous actors, musicians and entertainers meet in brown pubs, American diners and even a jukebox bar. All that talk about the pleasures of coffee and cigarettes, doesn’t that get boring after a while? Coffee and Cigarettes proves the opposite. Beneath the seemingly light-hearted encounters lie surreal dialogues that constantly surprise the audience.
