Sand Movements 2
11 April 2026
Every day, vast quantities of natural raw materials are moved across the Netherlands. Sand is the most common of these, and through sand the story can be told of a landscape that is constantly in motion. The Rotte is one such landscape.
In this tour, part of the Landscape Crafting exhibition at OMI and the Waterworks residency programme at Buitenplaats Brienenoord, artist Lara Almarcegui and geologist Michiel van der Meulen (TNO, Geological Survey of the Netherlands) walk along the Rotte together. The starting point is the intersection with the new A16 motorway — a location chosen for the remarkable layering visible there. The walk brings art and geology together in an interdisciplinary approach to the transformation of the Dutch landscape.
