Eindhoven School: A Forgotten Avant-garde

Curatorial Research Collective

20 February - 18 March 2018

‘The Eindhoven School: a forgotten avant-garde’ is the result of a long-term research project. Throughout the 1980s, a group of architects educated at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) came to be known as the ‘Eindhoven School’. This forefront of Dutch architecture had a shared interest in history and theory.

The exhibition illustrates the influence of the Eindhoven School through text, photos, drawings, publications and models. The early projects of architects as Wim van den Bergh, Ralph Brodrück, Jos van Eldonk, Johan Kappetein, Bert Staal, Rudy Uytenhaak, Gert-Jan Willemse and René van Zuuk are presented. Furthermore, the influence of Geert Bekaert, Gerard van Zeijl and Joost Meuwissen – teachers part of the chair of Architecture History and Theory – on the shaping of the students at TU Eindhoven, as well as the dissemination of their work (and method) by means of publications and exhibitions.
