The countless stories of the Schouwburgplein

During After Summer School 2024, a week of public classes take place across Rotterdam, bringing together over 20 guest lecturers to highlight the city as a hub of underexposed and alternative knowledge. These sessions, hold at various locations, offer unique perspectives on the city’s development, reinforcing Rotterdam’s identity as a place of diverse ideas and innovations.
During the school, OMI leads an excursion to Schouwburgplein. This central square, a hotspot for various opinions, visions, and plans regarding public space, becomes the focal point for a thought-provoking exploration. Attendees are guided by architect and researcher Claudia Kromrei (University of Bremen) and young designers Mike van Rheenen and Arianne Fleege, who delve into the past, present, and possible future of this urban space.
