Radical Architecture for the End of the World

Kees van Leeuwen

2 November 2023 - 13 January 202

Thousands of people are currently searching for a safe shelter that is not available. Artist Kees van Leeuwen has spent years researching bunkers that were built to protect people during the Cold War. These turned out to be completely unnecessary in the Netherlands, but they offer a fascinating insight into what the threat can do to a society.

Information brochures, posters and minimalist architecture prepare inhabitants for the end of the world. In the exhibition, Van Leeuwen shows the historical context, and with a spatial installation lets you experience what it’s like to be forced into shelter when an attack is expected.

During the exhibition, OMI is organizing a programme of excursions and presentations.
