“This place is always been on my conscience. I got to go there. It’s big scale for me. It’s two buildings and it’s a garden. It’s a hill. It’s a space in between and the more time I’ve been spending there I realized that the title is the Robin Hood Gardens – it is a garden.” Hélène Binet, Photographer
The improvement, renewal or demolition of Post 65 architecture is not only a Dutch subject. In the documentary Robin Hood Gardens, filmmakers Thomas Beyer and Adrian Dorschner capture Alison and Peter Smithson’s iconic London housing complex, short before its demolition. This film is about the intentions and the failing of this brutalist project from 1972. It shows two losses: A utopian idea and a home for its residents. Can we still learn something from the design to improve living in the city of tomorrow?
The filmmakers will be present at the screening for a Q&A.
