Inhabiting Time
Animation workshop with filmmaker Tess Martin
Saturday 4 July 2026
How do objects carry memories of home? In this hands-on animation workshop, filmmaker Tess Martin invites participants to explore the relationship between time, memory and belonging through replacement animation. Through playful exercises using simple animation techniques, the group’s objects – toys, keys, jewellery, photographs and keepsakes – shall transition surprisingly into each other, revealing how our understanding of home shifts throughout life.
Work by Tess Martin
Bring along a small object that reminds you of home – something meaningful, ordinary, inherited or simply associated with a place or a period in your life. Together, participants will construct a collective series of short stop-motion animations, where their personal objects will transform, accumulate and disappear.
No animation experience required!
This workshop is a part of Current Traces #3: This Must Be the Place. Through the eyes of filmmaker and animator Tess Martin, architect Tov Frencken and artist Nael Quraishi, the exhibition invites you to look again at your surroundings – not as stable ground, but as an assemblage of past lives, memories and future desires.
