Laurenskwartier

View stories all areas

The Laurenskwartier is the old town centre, but little remains of it following the bombing. Only the Laurenskerk still serves as a reminder of the medieval town. And the waterway connecting the New Delftste Poort with the Market Hall on the Binnenrotte, the location where Rotterdam was founded in the 13th century. On this route, you’ll find a mix of modern post-war architecture, cosy housing and large-scale landmarks.

The walking tours through the Laurenskwartier allow you to discover its rich history via Maaike Sier’s archaeological tour, whilst architectural photographer Rob ’t Hart recalls his memories through a photo story.
